D2X-XL Worklog

Notes on features and problems from the development of D2X-XL, newest first.

Collisions

When two objects collide, they now always push each other along the line where they touch. Objects that only graze each other slide past, and ramming something makes it spin, depending on how obliquely it was hit.

The advanced damage model, which uses the hitboxes of a model instead of a sphere around it, has been repaired and extended. With it, a shot has to hit one of the boxes fitted around the parts of a ship or robot, and hits can damage single modules like aiming, drives and guns. The standard damage model with its spheres remains the default; the damage model is chosen in the physics options.

A shot that gets through the shield, but passes through a gap in the model does no harm.

In Descent 1 missions the robots have the strength they had in Descent 1.
