Nirvana was one of the the Descent level designers, cranking out quality level after quality level. On this page,
I will feature a select few of his works.

AnnihilateAnnihilate is a level Nirvana built for the Chicage Descent Fest 1998 by request of Zappafan. It's a pretty big level that is loosely split in several sections separated by grates, pillars or walls with break through, so while it has these distinct areas you can still appear out of nowhere, strike, and disappear again. The textures follow a color scheme that is typical for Nirvana: dark blue, lava red, brown and gray rock with some green thrown in make for a great, unobtrusive texturing perfectly supported by the pretty dark lighting. A heck of a multiplayer level I bet, and perfectly suited for those larger battles.
Dementia 2Dementia 2 is one of the numerous multiplayer levels Nirvana made. It has a structure similar to Vamped with its boxy style, rectangular halls and short tunnels. Dementia is larger and more complex though. Good layout, well chosen textures and lots of funny signs at the walls make this level a pleasure to play.
Destruction ComesNirvana built Destruction Comes particularly for one on one games, so it's a pretty small level, yet far from being simplistic. While it has a very minimalistic texturing using mainly dark blue, gray and brown - which absolutely doesn't hurt though, rather au contraire, it has a sophisticated layout with numerous halls, connections and the obligatory tunnel behind a door and full of goodies. This level certainly plays well for more than two players, though weapons might be a bit scarce..
hf,b!anl!!hf,b!anl!! (Holy Fleasoap, Batman!) is another of Nirvana's creations, and a bigger one this time. Texturing is mainly brown and gray with some bright blue thrown in, and the level is pretty open, with wide connections and some bigger areas and halls for a lot of dogfighting fun. It's rather dark and very atmospheric due to the very well placed lighting.
Kilns Fusion FarmNirvana made Kiln's Fusion Farm for Kiln. If you know Nirvana's style, you'll be amazed by this level: It's very vertical, with some almost monumental proportions. Texturing and structure are awesome, and there's something for tunnel rats as well. Some doors will give away your position if you use them. As a nice little detail, the Fusion cannons are custom textured and black.
Reality 3D ProReality 3D Pro is one of Nirvana's works, and a pretty unusual one. He states in the readme that he is getting more and more fond of truly 3D levels with a lot of detail, and it shows. Reality 3D is a rather large level with a lot of pillars and some pretty monumental places. You may almost feel lost here, and using long range weapons is a good bet in this level..
RepressedNirvana has built several levels under the 'Repressed' label. They look similar in texturing and style, but provide some interesting differences in layout. I have put two of them in one zip file.
RepressedRepressed is a classical Nirvana level with a flat, boxy layout and quite a few tunnels connecting some medium sized halls perfect for dogfights. As in many Nirvana levels, you will again find a two level design with some grates separating the levels. Use the tunnels for a getaway or to collect those powerups, but be aware that you might be visible in them, putting you at the risk of dying from a well placed smart missile.
![]() Repressed3D view Repressed 2Repressed is a not so classical classical Nirvana level. While it still has the boxes, tunnels, and grates, Nirvana has thrown in some nice vertical areas giving a new twist to this level. Brown, gray, red and green textures never looked as good as here. And then there are his custom signs referring to well known Descent 2 players of that time. Probably the best level in this trilogy.
Repressed 23D view TourniquetTourniquet is a small level Nirvana built for the Ultimate Challenge Tournament 1998. It's a small level suited very well for one on one play, and it is a very vertical level with a lot of headroom. Yet, Nirvana's typical level elements like the tunnels that are separated with grates from the rooms below aren't missing here. The level features Nirvana's typical, good looking texturing and great lighting. Recommendable!
VampedVamped by Nirvana is another classic. It was built as a 1 on 1 level, but plays great with more players (more than 5 will turn the battle into a massacre however
. Nice texturing and lighting. I have included the Observatory pro version of Vamped in the zip file (enter the weapon drop area and fly away from the wall to enter the observatory). |
