DarkFlameWolf is probably the most prolific Descent level author these days, churning out new levels at regular intervals,

Azure CATacombs XLAzure CATacombs is a reference to the Descent 3 level 'Billy the Cat' and has been heavily inspired by it. Billy the Cat is a good level with a great layout, and Wolfie has managed to match it with the limited means of Descent and even surpass it lighting and texturing wise. The level is a composition of a wide, long stretched cave with a river and pools and hallways and shafts giving the level a very three dimensional structure. On top of it DarkFlameWolf provides a set of custom weapons very much changing the gameplay from the usual formula of aggressively pounding the opponent with everything available to a game of cat and mouse by changing many guns to very slow firing, but extremely deadly weapons. The XL version of the level has been enhanced by an (inaccessible) underwater area and a few effects where they fit well (mostly sound effects). I have also replaced the low resolution custom textures by high resolution textures, carefully sticking as close to Wolfie's original as possible. Castle de le MuerteCastle de le Muerte is a small symmetrical multiplayer level reminiscent of a church with its colorful stained windows, forming a cross at one point, which are contrasted with skulls decorating the walls. The entire level looks like a reference to the catholicism of the Spanish inquisition, and maybe the title suggests this level is the latin American version of a zombie apocalypse. Anyway, the level looks fast and fun, so download and enjoy.
![]() Chaos Theory XLChaos Theory is an impressive production of DarkFlameWolf. It features six multiplayer levels of various sizes. DarkFlameWolf has a good sense for three dimensional structures and has created a noteworthy level set with Chaos Theory. The version offered here is not quite her original work though, as I have ironed out a few small flaws in some of the missions and have completely retextured all missions using Descent 3 textures, giving the levels a completely new and stunning appearance. On top of that I have added static smoke where it seemed fit, so this version is aptly named Chaos Theory XL and only works with D2X-XL.
To avoid any misunderstandings: I still consider this mission DarkFlameWolf's and not mine. But maybe you appreciate the extra work I have put into it. ![]() #1 CatalystTwo long bent interconnected tubes. A few secrets hide some extra weaponry. Rather on the small side. Catalyst has a rock/steel theme.
Catalyst3D view #2 InitiationThis medium sized level has a beautiful architecture with several areas nested within each other. Initiation has a water theme, mixed with some very techy stuff.
Initiation3D view #3 UnbridledUnbridled is a medium sized level with a clear and distinct lava and steel theme. What makes it interesting are the several interconnected stories, offering lava drops and a lot of opportunities to cruise in and out of opponents' sights.
Unbridled3D view #4 StandoffStandoff is a pretty huge level with big halls and long hallways offering a lot of verticality. It features a bluish, cold theme and looks a bit like alien technology.
Standoff3D view #5 BreakthroughBreakthrough is the level that impresses me most. A lot of creativity went into it, and it looks fantastic and very techy. There's a wide and high, softly bent hall, with other areas connected to its sides and ends. Quite a lot of tunnels expose you to the view of your opponents, but thankfully the mesh glass I used keeps you from being shot down while being unable to escape.
Breakthrough3D view #6 CulminationCulmination is another huge level, with two ring shaped hallways branching off its wide central hall, and the flag rooms connected to the hall's ends. Culmination is a rather dark, if not to say obscure level also coming with an alien, techy touch.
Culmination3D view Infernal CavernInfernal Cavern is a great execution of the lava cave theme. The entire level is indulged in eerie red lighting, and the few metal textures that have been applied fit the theme well (particularly if you use the mod I have provided for the level). The level is medium sized and offers the proven formula of a fair bunch of differently sized hallways and medium sized dogfighting spaces. Good level for hide and seek gameplay.
Wolfies Tea RoomWolfie's Team Room is a beautiful little level looking like remnants of an old castle set under an open night sky. Wolfie has managed to achieve to give the level a stunning and charming look by using simple means. The level is small, and you can hardly hide anywhere, so it should provide a lot of fun by offering fast gameplay and rather brutal firefights. Did I mention already that I have fallen in love with this little jewel?
